Sergeant Lionel Cornbloom was an English airman of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died during the Second World War.
He was born at Pancras, the son of Albert and Esther Cornbloom (née Smith).
Cornbloom, an air bomber under training with 1 (Observers) Advanced Flying Unit, died on 1 February 1945, aged 23, when his Avro Anson (serial D902) was lost to unknown causes while returning from a night navigation exercise over the Irish Sea. The wreckage of the aircraft was located five miles south-east of the Mull of Galloway, however, the crew was not in evidence.[1]
The five crew have no known grave and are commemorated by the Runnymede Memorial.
