Gunner Lionel V. Basco (born Bascovitch) was an English soldier of the British Army who died during the Second World War.

He was born on 5 February 1915, in Mile End, the son of Russian-born tailor Hyman and Matilda Basco (née Taylor), of London. In 1939, Basco was working as a machinist.[1]

Aged 28, Basco died on 1 May 1943 while working on the Thailand-Burma Railway as a prisoner in Japanese captivity. He had belonged to 125 (Northumbrian) Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery, which had formed part of Singapore's defence until Japan occupied the colony in February 1942.[2] He had married, in 1938, to Mary Simons.

He is buried in Chungkai War Cemetery.
