Private John Frederick Gaida was an English soldier of the British Army who died during the Second World War.
He was born in 1913, in Westminster, London, the son of Italian-born parents Ferdinando and Marietta Gaida.
Gaida died on 4 June 1943, during the construction of the Thailand-Burma Railway, while incarcerated in the Japanese prisoner-of-war camp San Krai.[1] His unit, the 1st Battalion, The Manchester Regiment, had been part of the Allied garrison in Singapore when it fell to the Japanese Empire in February 1942.
He is buried in Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery, Burma.
