Lieutenant John Edward Earle was an officer of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died during the Second World War.

He was the son of Edward Kenneth Luton and Maria Angeles Earle (née Del Solar), of Bilbao, Spain.

Aged 25, Earle died on 20 March 1945, when the German U-Boat U-968 sunk the Black Swan-class sloop HMS Lapwing off Northern Russia, with the loss of 158 crew. She had been providing cover for Convoy JW-65.

He has no known grave and is commemorated by the Plymouth Naval Memorial.
