Ordinary Seaman Francis Charles Roy Peckford was a Canadian sailor of the Royal Navy who died during the Second World War.
He was born the son of Joseph and Rosalie Peckford, of Change Islands, Newfoundland, at the time a dominion separate from Canada..
Aged 20, Peckford died on 24 August 1940, when the German U-boat U-37 torpedoed and sunk the sloop HMS Penzance south-west of Iceland, with the loss of 90 crew. She had been providing the sole escort for Convoy SC-1.
He has no known grave and is commemorated by the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
