Czechoslovakia or Czecho-Slovakia was a sovereign state in Central Europe that existed from October 1918, when it declared its independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, until its peaceful dissolution into the Czech Republic and Slovakia on 1 January 1993.
During the Second World War, Czechoslovakia was occupied by Nazi Germany. A government-in-exile was formed in Paris in October 1939, and relocated to London after the fall of France. The majority of Czechoslovakian exiles operated with the Soviet Armed Forces, however, a small number of units were formed by the British.
