Able Seaman Abraham Leopold Hyman was an English sailor of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died during the First World War.
He was born on 22 November 1887, in Birmingham, the son of tailor Henry and Hannah Hyman, of Edinburgh and Portsmouth, respectively. At the time of the 1911 census, Abraham Hyman was working as a plate washer for a hotel. He married Hilda Lusher in 1914.
Hyman belonged to the British Army reserve before he entered the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. He was selected for the Western Front in August 1917, where he joined the Nelson Battalion, Royal Naval Division, on 27 September.[1] He was killed on 31 December, in a German attack on a position known as "Welsh Ridge".
He has no known grave and is commemorated by the Thiepval Memorial.
